Smart Kids Can be Dumb About Money
by PRWEB

Parents dont appreciate how unprepared their kids are to manage financial matters on their own and how much kids need to know today to avoid problems and bad habits which will hurt them later in life.

(PRWEB) August 20, 2024 -- Parents need to take the time to educate their kids about money management before they leave for college. Unfortunately, college students often get in financial trouble at school. US Treasury statistics reveal that 45% of all college students are in debt with an average credit card debt load of $3,000 by graduation. Studies have also shown that young people typically get failing grades on tests of their financial knowledge. They are not adequately prepared for the financial choices they must make when living on their own for the first time. In fact, bankruptcy is growing faster among young adults in their 20's than in any other age group in the country. Yet, parents are sending their kids to college with only a mild lecture against overspending.

Packed with real-life case examples on video, audio and high-appeal graphics, Onward! with Financial Stuff is designed to make even the least interested student enjoy the material and use it as an ongoing reference tool while at school or later in life. Topics include: lost or stolen credit or debit cards, credit card pricing, managing a budget, organizing financial records, identity theft, taxes, financial privacy, credit reports, writing to your bank, and much more.

Creator Amy Paul explains, When my son went off to college I found out just how uniformed and financially troubled young people are today. I felt I had to do something to help kids start life off right.

Scott, a freshmen in college, had never paid bills before he left for college. He didnt realize that he had to pay a monthly bill for his dorm telephone. He became very busy at school with papers, tests and new friends, and never made it to his mail box for six weeks. When he finally got to the mail box, he found a disconnect notice from the phone company. He didnt think that missing only one payment would cause him to lose telephone service so he didnt pay it right away. But when he went to pick up his phone a week later he realized how ignorant he was. He had to pay the bill, late fees and then there were reconnecting fees to pay! A very expensive and humbling lesson.

The Advantages of Attending a Career College.

There are many educational choices for this years crop of graduating seniors. Traditional colleges, both four-year colleges and community colleges, are becoming less and less of a fit for students. Long times to graduate, waiting lists for popular programs, or outdated curriculum for modern careers are all compelling reasons to seek other sources of education. Indeed, only 30% of students who enter a four year college actually graduate. Of those who do graduate, large portions dont even find work in their chosen field.
On the other hand, career colleges offer specific training for some of the hottest jobs available like nursing, dental hygiene and a wide range of technical and computer jobs. Lets look at three perceived disadvantages a career college has over traditional schools.

Are you ready for Your Student's Student Loans

Your son or daughter is a high school senior and your worried about the coming year, and more importantly, the coming student loans? College has become so important in your children's future that parents have begun to plan for it at their child's birth. But, not all of us, as new parents thought that far ahead or could afford too. So, now what? Student loans, whether they are federal loans or not, are options to considered, but to understand first.

Many students that enter college need financial aid. College financial aid provides for instruction as well as the costs of books. But, usually, it does not provide for living arrangements or meals. These are added expenses most of the time.  [More >>]
