When it's time to go to college, the word "scholarship" is confusing for both students and parents. We automatically think about student loans, FAFSA, tuition and fees, EFC, grants, and work study. But what we don't realize is that knowing more about the scholarship process could save us thousands of dollars when trying to cover the cost of our kids' education
Scholarships are "free money" given away by the government, private institutions and organizations, charitable foundations, schools, universities, clubs, etc. Unlike loans, scholarships are not repaid to the scholarship provider

How to Give Yourself a Raise with an Online College Degree
If you look around you, it doesn't take long before you can begin to notice others around you engaging in some kind of self improvement activity. If we want to look younger, we diet. If we want to feel younger, we exercise. To add culture to our lives, we might learn a second language or listen to classical music. These are all worth while self improvement activities we can participate in; however it can be shown that an increase number of Americans are continuing their education after high school. Some are returning to the online classroom after an absence of several years in order to enhance or change their career.
There are many people today from all walks of life who are getting an online college degree from home. Dollar for dollar, an online college degree or post graduate work pays off. The quickest way to give yourself a raise is to receive your certification in an area in which you are all ready working. Examples where board certification is pertinent include technical and vocational fields to name a few.

Some scholarships are based on your kid's grades or financial needs, while others are awarded based on ethnic groups, athletic or artistic abilities, or given to students interested in a particular field. In some instances, your kids don't have to have perfect grades to apply for a scholarship, and some don't even ask for any proof of income. For example, the Work-Study Scholarship will require your kid to work part-time for the money given and most jobs are on campus. Finding information on scholarships on the Internet can be difficult because you won't find everything you need to know to finance your child's education. A year ago, when my daughter was going to college, I searched the Internet and the only thing I found simple enough to do was fill out a FAFSA application. Since I didn't have time to search the Internet at the moment, and because other information I found was so confusing, I decided just to fill out the application and did nothing else. I promised myself that for the next year, I would search in advance because even though my daughter got some financial aid, I was convinced that there had to be other resources out there for her education. That's when I came accross a guide written by a father that went through the process of getting a scholarship for his child, who spent time talking to financial aid officers at many universities and discovered that just filling out the CSS Profile and FAFSA financial aid forms and meeting some deadlines is only half the battle in acquiring Federal Pell grants, college need-based grants, and Federal Stafford and Perkins loans. I learned how college financial aid offices actually determine what federal aid and state grants will be given out to potential students and if you know in advance how to prepare yourself to receive the maximum amount for your child's college education, you will obtain better results. Once you know where to find the information and when and how to apply for a scholarship, it will be easy to obtain financial aid for your kids. Still Waiting What to do when your Child Lands on the College Wait List.
After sorting through brochures, helping tailor the perfect essay, and juggling schedules to attend college nights, and campus visits, you await the answer to the all-important question. Did your senior make the grade for their top choice school? Unfortunately, when the letter of truth arrives it doesn?t offer ?congratulations? or ?regretfully inform.? Your child has been cordially invited to the ?wait list.?
While most parents prepare their child for acceptance or outright rejection, today?s competitive environment includes a wild card. Even honor students with 4.0 GPA?s,1460 SAT scores, numerous activities, and full scholarships from competing universities land on waiting lists. Since students now apply to a laundry list of schools, and many factors influence an applicants? decision it has become difficult for institutions to accurately project who will accept their offer. Admissions Officers rely on wait lists as insurance policies.

College Savings Plans
So you have just carried your newborn into the house for the first time, placed him or her down into the freshly-purchased crib that you just obtained, and watched him or her drift into their first sleep under your roof. Now its time to head downstairs by the fire, cuddle up with your spouse, and start discussing college plans for this new little tyke. Wait, college plans? Thats right. It is never too early to start planning the future out for your child, especially with the way that college tuition is elevating to new heights with every passing year. Before you start planning though, it is important to know your options as new parents to a potential college student (even if he or she is just a few days old!).
Start A College Savings Plan Through Your Bank Your first option when learning about college savings plans for your child may be to contact your local bank and discuss the possibilities of opening up a special college savers fund for your child. Not all banks have them readily available for customers, but check with yours to see if this is an option. If not, you will then have to contact specific companies that deal with college savings plans, such as the Section 529 state college savings plans. Such a plan enables you, as new parents, to start stashing money away now, so that junior can attend your state college once he or she is of age to do so.

International Education Week Encourages Study Abroad, Special Incentives for International Students
International student enrollments at US colleges and universities continues to decline, according to a recent report by CNN. While colleges and universities work to bring up enrollments by marketing to international students, other organizations are working equally hard to improve the appeal of studying abroad by helping international students obtain more services at lower costs.
Quincy, MA (PRWEB) November 15, 2024 -- International student enrollments at US colleges and universities continues to decline, according to a recent report by CNN [1. While colleges and universities work to bring up enrollments by marketing to international students, other organizations are working equally hard to improve the appeal of studying abroad by helping international students obtain more services at lower costs. Ross Mason, director of InternationalStudent.com, an online international student resource site, stated, "One of the biggest obstacles to studying abroad is the sheet cost. Most international students don't anticipate the extra expenses of living abroad, from increased insurance costs to high tuition, especially in the United States, where tuition at private colleges and universities outpaces financial aid."
